Vacancies

We are currently recruiting for a senior developer.

Senior developer

Background

We are looking for an experienced developer that shares our passion for making tools for people that are changing the world. Our most important tool is  CiviCRM - we help organisation make the best use of CiviCRM through training and advice, and when appropriate development of CiviCRM extensions and related code. We take a strategic and pragmatic approach to development, only doing so when necessary, minimising the amount of code we produce, and ensuring that everything is maintainable long term.

Day to day activities

You'll work with a small team at Third Sector Design, communicating directly with clients, and playing a key role in the CiviCRM community. Day to day you will:

  • train and empower clients to make the best use of CiviCRM out of the box
  • work with clients to understand when custom code is the right solution
  • write, test and deploy CiviCRM extensions for clients when appropriate
  • write, test and document contributions to CiviCRM
  • participate in community events such as conferences, meetups, and sprints.
  • work on internal tools and systems for Third Sector Design (which are all open source)

Desired skills and experience

We are looking for someone that can hit the ground running. You don’t need to have all of the following skills and experience, but the best candidates would be able to demonstrate experience in most of these areas:

  • CiviCRM (desirable but not required)
  • developing complex web applications
  • working with PHP, or similar languages
  • integrating external APIs (e.g. payment services, email service providers, SMS, natural language processing)
  • a track record of contributing to open source projects
  • active participation in an online or real world community (e.g. a software community, local club or organisation, etc.)
  • working with non profits in a professional or voluntary capacity
  • implementing website designs (CSS and HTML) from mockups
  • user experience and user interface design, and usability engineering
  • system administration, operating systems and infrastructure (Linux, Docker, etc.)
  • WordPress, Drupal or similar content management systems

Benefits and working environment

We can pay between £35k and 45K depending on experience.

We are a mainly remote team with an office in Exeter. Ideally, you will live a commutable distance from Exeter, though we will make exceptions for the best candidates.

Staff that live a commutable distance to Exeter aim to spend one day a week in the office working face to face with colleagues, and are free to spend the rest of their time working from home or in the office as preferred. Staff that live further away typically arrange one week-long visit to the office per quarter. The role will likely involve some international travel for conferences and client meetings.

Applications

Please send an email detailing your skills and experience along with any supporting links and resources (e.g. your github profile) to info@thirdsectordesign.org. Alternatively, please call us with any questions about the role before submitting an application.

Equal Opportunities

We are an equal opportunities employer. We are determined to ensure that no applicant or employee receives less favourable treatment on the grounds of gender, age, disability, religion, belief, sexual orientation, marital status, or race, or is disadvantaged by conditions or requirements which cannot be shown to be justifiable.
